Ben and Newt (Newton) Hibler with old Bill Harper

This is a picture made into a post card and is somewhere in Burnet County. From the cabin in the background it looks like old Bill's place as my father described it, a rickety old log cabin. When was the picture made? I would love to know that but, what would be interesting too would be who is taking the picture? Note the shotgun across the deer's antlers.

Bill Harper was very proud of his fingernail. Good picture of Ben.

This close up I made from the high resolution scan and this is as clear as I can get it for now. The story goes it was his thumb nail but looks like it is the nail on his right index finger. Talking with my brother he remembers another picture we might have somewhere that shows the thumb nail. I seem to remember this too. The index nail is actually better than an inch long and what you think you see as the end of a dirty nail is really the edge he kept sharp at an 45 degree angle. I know my father and other family members spoke of Bill often. The picture is in pretty bad shape and it took several hours in Photoshop to get it looking good. As soon as I can get my hands on a better scanner I am going to go for better detail and see if we can see the hand better.

Back of picture with Annie Alice Hibler Norred's hand writing and in pencil by someone addressing it to Finices Hibler.

I make this out of my grandmothers hand writing;
"Ben Hibler, Newt Hibler, old Bill Harper, (Hermit) Can see long thumb-nail He used to cut his meat with Not so plain now, has fadded so.". Also someone had addressed it in pencil to Finices A Hibler Bertram, Texas. No stamp so it was naver mailed. Darn as that would have dated it.
