What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

I found this some time back over at PageTutor which is a nice site if like me, you work with websites. They have great tutorials and resources. Anyhow this is something that they did back in 2009. With the national debt almost doubled now you are in for a real shock.

Anyhow we hear everyday where the government is spending a few 100 Million here, a few Billion there, a couple Trillion way over there and, have you ever wondered what one Trillion dollars would look like? Well PageTutor did a very good job using scaled graphics and dimensions to give what I think is the best representation of what this much money would look like in $100 dollar bills. Now this is going to be one of those scroll down things so once you get to the bottom and recover from the shock of want a Trillion looks like, be sure to click on the link on the lower left and see what 11 Trillion looks like which was our national debt in 2009. Now it’s a bit north of 17 Trillion so, in your mind you can imagine this enormous stack almost doubled!

Shock and Awe!

Now after you see this you will understand why I think it is time to cut up the National Credit Card!

A History of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Another great space video from SpaceRip

“NASA’s tribute to the Hubble Space Telescope on its 20th anniversary in space. This beautiful video surveys the incredible accomplishments of this revolutionary instrument: everybody’s favorite telescope.”

This is a great video about the Hubble Space Telescope from it’s conception, to launch, and the many repair and upgrade missions that make it what it is today. The Hubble will be remembered in history because it changed the way we look at the universe and has produced more knowledge in it’s 20+ years than all of the 400 years back to Galileo combined.

A report about reports about reports that recommends the preparation of a report about the report about reports about reports

This one from over at BoingBoing.net

This is a topic dealing with this year’s IgNobel Prizes and I thought it might be of interest. It would even be funny if it were not real, and an example of government waste on a grand scale. Check it out for yourself.

How Large is the Universe?

Here is another and the latest featured space video from my friends at SpaceRip.

This one called “How large is the Universe?” is by Thomas Lucas Productions dated 2012 and written by the same. It is narrated by Dick Rodstein with contributions from an all star cast of contributors including but, not limited to NASA, JPL, European Space Agency, and CERN just to name a few. The imagery and super computer generated models are stunning to say the least and go a long way in helping the author explain a very complex topic in a way the layman can understand and enjoy. This is like a total must see for any aspiring science geek, and to all you science teachers out there this has some really great material that could really enhance your science lesson plans.

Battleship – Part 1 & 2 of a 12 part series on the history of the Battleship, including the intro.

These are copies of what seems to be a documentary from the Discovery Channel on the history of the battleship. I could be wrong and, if wrong, will correct the matter but, to the best of my knowledge this one was done by the Discovery Channel around 2002. ABC and other have similar documentaries and if they have good of differing content I will post them. This being said this is a very good watch if your interested in the most powerful ships to sail the seas. They present a great timeline on the development and evolution of the modern battleships up today when though in moth ball, the mighty Missouri and Iowa lay at ready. Remember they were both once again called back into service during the recent gulf war and, the Missouri fired the first shot of the war in the form of a Tomahawk missile. Once again the mighty 16 inch guns were fired again in anger during this war for the first timer in  50 years since the Korean conflict. I will post all 12 parts two at a time.

Enjoy!

A Interstellar Voyage, what might be involved?

I found this and many other space and science videos on one of my favorite YouTube channels, SpaceRip.

This video uses Pandora, the idyllic blue world featured in the movie Avatar, as an example to illustrate a scenario where in a possible future we would need to migrate from our planet for various reasons.  Pandora’s location is based on a real place: Alpha Centauri, the nearest star to our Sun and the most likely destination for our first journey beyond the solar system.

Everything from anti matter as the future fuel of choice to faster than light speed is discussed in this video. Each time I watch it I gain new knowledge and insight, in short it makes you think. I will be posting many more videos of this genre from various “geek” sights I frequent while “jacked into the matrix”, flowing like an excited electron through it’s fabulous wealth of knowledge.

The 2012 Presidentual Election, either way another 4 years of the same.

I don’t know about the rest of you but, to me no matter which of the two candidates we have to chose from gets elected in November, half of the country is going to hate it. I don’t like either party anymore and have found myself in a real pickle. I don’t even want to vote though I should and know it. I just can’t see where either party has the best interest of the people in mind, rather it seems it is much more about who has control of the money. To me it’s more of a competition than a election and we the people are the looser in the long run. Perhaps by the time the 2016 election rolls around we the people will have come to our senses and have had enough, one can only hope.

Howdy All, and welcome.

Take your shoes off, rest a spell, and have a read or watch a video. Who knows, I might have something here that will interest you. I enjoy a wide variety of interest due to being the poster child for adult ADHD, so this is intended to be somewhat of an outlet for some of my interest, we shall see how it evolves ;-) .  Anyhow as this is just the initial ice breaker if you will, I’ll get on with things.
